Bio

Suzannah Sinclair (b. 1979, Frankfurt, Germany) is an American painter living and working in rural Maine. Born while her father was stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army and raised in New Jersey, she received a BFA in Printmaking from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston in 2002.

For more than two decades, Sinclair has exhibited her work nationally and internationally. Her paintings have been presented in solo and group exhibitions at venues including Samsøñ, Boston; Stene Projects, Stockholm; and New Image Art, Los Angeles. She was included in the 2011 Portland Museum of Art Biennial, and her work has been featured at major art fairs including NADA Miami, VOLTA New York, MACO Mexico City, the Dallas Art Fair, and Market Art Fair in Stockholm. Her work has been reviewed in publications including Artforum, The Boston Globe, and The Portland Press Herald.

Alongside her studio practice, Sinclair has developed a significant curatorial and publishing practice. In 2021, she organized Egg Tempera Now: A Modest Revival at Able Baker Contemporary in Portland, Maine, bringing renewed attention to the historic medium through the work of contemporary painters. She is also the founder of Sinclairs Garage, an artist-run publishing imprint dedicated to producing affordable artist books by underrepresented artists, particularly those whose practices have been shaped by geography, parenthood, career stage, or other circumstances that often limit visibility within the contemporary art world.
