Bio

Sophie Cangelosi (b. 1993) is a visual artist living and working in Rockland, Maine. Since earning her BFA from Maine College of Art, she has shown her work throughout the US, including a solo exhibition at 82 Parris in Portland, ME.

Sophie’s work oscillates between abstraction and representation by weaving colors, textures, graphic shapes, and figures. Through paint, she meditates on intimacy, temporality, and belonging. Embodied awareness, relation, and observation are core to her process. Often not working from preconceived compositions, Sophie’s painting process and present intuition dictate the final composition of each work.
