T. Allen Lawson (b. 1963) was born and raised in Sheridan, Wyoming. Lawson studied drawing and portraiture at the American Academy of Art in Chicago and at the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts in Old Lyme, Connecticut.
T. Allen Lawson has won numerous awards including the 2017 Prix De West Purchase Award; the Robert Lougheed Memorial Artists’ Choice Award; 2016 Directors’ Choice for Outstanding Landscape and the Robert Lougheed Memorial Artists’ Choice Award, both at the Prix de West; and the 2010 Founder’s Prize, Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts. In 2008, he was chosen by the President and First Lady to create the painting for the official White House Christmas card.
A successful and established artist, T. Allen Lawson has works featured in many public collections including The Smithsonian Institution; the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum; Yale University Art Gallery; the Farnsworth Art Museum and the Denver Art Museum; amoung others.
Lawson lives with his wife and five children in Sheridan, Wyoming and Rockport, Maine. After splitting his time between Wyoming and Maine, he is grateful to the change for granting him fresh eyes and a new perspective. "I see the West very differently now than I saw it when I grew up here, and vastly different than if I had stayed here the whole time. It's very exciting, especially for my work."
